The Independent Television Service

The ITS production manual has very valuable information, even if the project is not intended to air on public television. The manual is available here. From information on music rights and copyrights to insurance and marketing, this thorough manual has contact information for rights, closed-captioning, distribution, insurance, payroll services and more.
• If the project is planned to be produced for broadcast, visit the PBS Producer’s web site. While very detailed and technical, the PBS producer’s handbook is very thorough. Be assured that if these technical and editorial specifications are met, then the project will not be discounted based on these specifications.
There are other great books and manuals written by film and multimedia professionals that will be helpful for independent producers just getting started in the business. Check your local library or search the Internet.
